bAWARE - Enabling animals to co-exist with humans

bAWARE is dedicated to creating revolutionary electronic devices that empower wild animals to avoid conflicts with human infrastructure, livestock, and humans.
The idea was born in Kenya, where "animal conflict" is common: Examples are lions preying on cattle, raptors and other large birds being electrocuted or colliding with power lines and wind- turbines, and the fast growing population requiring more and more space and energy.

Policy makers and utilities in Africa over decades have made little to no progress in deploying save poles or retrofitting unsafe ones with plastic or rubber insulators in critical areas, although these do exist globally since the 1970's. Instead, the understandable desire for energy, so essential for economic development, prioritizes additional power generation and grid expansions.

Conservationists felt thus obliged to think way outside the box to find solutions independent of utility companies.
At this point in time, bAWARE prototype development takes place in Europe and Asia. Many problems have already been solved, but it is still some way to go until the first units can be deployed for field tests.

We are evaluating various options globally for the optimal field trial locations. More important than who is first is to prove the effectiveness of the idea, but also in equal measure that it is harmless and safe for the  animals equipped with such devices, and thus has a clear net benefit for their survival.
Not all tracking and tracing transmitters can prove the same for themselves, as too often, the data collected doesn't actually leads to the implementation of effective protection measures.  bAWARE on the other hand, with its onboard actuators, will have an immediate and guaranteed benefit for the individual animal in return for the stress of capture and permanent encumbrance, even as we strive to the latter negligible.

We plan to conduct a rigorously scientific field study to quantify the impact.

This line in Laikipia/Kenya wasn't powered yet when the picture was taken. Otherwise, connecting 2 wires, or 1 wire to the earthed cross bar would be fatal for this martial eagle
